My husband and I have decided to cloth diaper our first child, who will be arriving in late November.

Right now I have about 30 or so cloth diapers of various kinds to try, including about 15 pocket diapers (babyland brand) and inserts, 4 All-In-Ones (Homemade and Bella Bottoms), 5 one-size Flip diaper covers with Stay-dry liners, 3 size small velcro PUL diaper covers and 3 or 4 fitted diapers. I’m planning on buying some prefolds and snappis to try, and I also just felted 4 wool sweaters to make wool soakers out of (I found a free pattern online).

But when our little girl is newborn and still has her umbilical cord stump, I’m not sure what diapers would work best. I do NOT want to use disposables, and I hear Kissaluvs size 0 work well, but they are SUPER expensive. The cheapest I’ve found them is .50 each (used) plus shipping. I can sew, and would be happy to make some diapers, if I knew what I was doing, but I feel kind of lost.

Can I use prefolds and covers for the first 3 or so weeks while she still has her umbilical cord, or will it rub her cord? If I can use prefolds, will the wool soaker covers be better, or the PUL? Should I just make some fitted diapers with the cord section cut out? Any advice from cloth-experienced mamas would be appreciated!

Bamboo Fitted Diapers?

Is anyone using them? I’ve been on the hunt for prefolds but no luck so I guess I have to use fitted. I know swaddlebees makes prefolds but they are too small. So anyway if you use them which brand? I am considering making my own prefolds because I can’t find them anywhere!!!!!!

i’m new to cloth diapering and considering getting some imse vimse or baby beehinds wool wrap covers (because i dont’ want to use PUL or anything with poly content on my wee love). i wondered about little beetle wool wraps too? i like the bummis super brite covers taht i have, but want to quit using them ASAP – - however – - the gussets work GREAT! which is why i started looking for slim wool covers with gussets. i have a couple knitted wool shorties & one longies (thanks to her grammas), but no wayyyy can i put clothes over them :(

also – what slim style fitted diapers (or prefolds, or….??) do you use that work best under the trim wool wraps that still did a good daytime job (i cna use the knitted woolies at night)? i’m looking for unbleached, untreated or organic cottons, hemp or bamboo primarily. no synthetics though.

thank you :)

I am new to cloth diapering. Very New. My initial purchase was a few thirsties diaper covers and some prefolds. I haven’t tried to use the prefolds at night. My kid is one. I pretty much gave up on the snappi’s and trying to wrap the prefold around baby. (I have trouble even wrapping presents). So far, I just been folding my prefold into 3rds and placing it right in the diaper cover (I had to cut the prefold down to do make it fit in the diaper cover.) I just don’t think doing this will make keep her dry at night. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using fitted diapers or AIO at night.
She’s 12 months. Also what are plain Kushies. are they an AIO?

Fitted cloth diapers…. opinions?

Okay, here is my cloth diapering situation…
prefolds and Thirsties for use at home…
Bumgenius 3.0 and Blueberry Minky one-size pocket diapers go to the babysitter’s house and out for long errands…
Fuzzi Bunz perfect size pocket diapers (much trimmer than Bumgenius and Blueberry) for wear under tight clothes and jeans…
My daughter is 7 months old now and she is really outgrowing the whole prefold thing.. she is becoming such a heavy wetter that I can’t seem to keep her dry.. I know you can add this and that to the prefold (extra layers, fleece, whatever..) in order to keep baby’s skin dry BUT I don’t really want to make my situation more difficult. I work full-time and whatnot…
SO.. I would like a good, TRIM, fitted diaper so that I can continue to use my Thirsties once I ditch the prefolds. Any direction would be nice. I have heard so many things.. my best friend swears by goodmamas but I have read so much garbage about them…
any opinions, suggestions, experiences….?
By the way, money isn’t completely any option… I don’t just want cheap options. I am looking for quality, being able to use them for another child, etc…

beginner to cloth diapering

video #1: my experience as a first-time cloth diaper user. hoping there’s some useful information for other first-timers out there. watch me make mistakes so you don’t have to! i briefly discuss – thirsties duo wrap, prefolds, gdiapers, snappies, flat diapers, apartment diapering, cloth diapering lingo, gerber cloth diapers, gerber plastic pants diaper cover, using receiving blankets as diapers, *CORRECTION* a fitted diaper is NOT an all-in-one, as i said. you still need a cover with a fitted. ha! see, i’m still learning… ;-)
